On Wednesday, February 20, 2019, Asharqia Chamber, represented by the Center for Social Responsibility, organized a lecture entitled, "Environmental management towards cleaner production in industry through sustainable development" in its branch in Jubail Governorate.
The Chancellor Talal bin Sultan Al-Rasheed, the Director General of Gulf Energy for Environmental Consultations, talked about several important recommendations on the subject of cleaner production in industry such as encouraging factories to replace old technologies with cleaner production techniques, and to provide models of cleaner and cost-effective cleaner production technologies.
Al-Rashid referred to several steps that aimed at cleaner production, including: identifying cleaner production products, adopting the Vision of the Kingdom 2030 for the application of cleaner production in factories, and the preparation of a prize for cleaner production and excellence for sustainable development.
Al-Rashid explained that cleaner production aims to optimal use of environmentally friendly raw materials, applying the best cleaner production technology, working to reduce the amount of waste from the source, and raising the awareness of the importance of cleaner industrial production.
He also spoke about environmental management in the industrial process.
He noted that it aims to preserve natural resources, reduce risk, develop equipment and use new technology with high efficiency, as well as replace hazardous materials in the industry with other, less hazardous materials.
Al-Rashid pointed out that the industrial sector needs initiatives that contribute to raising environmental awareness in the factories to move towards cleaner production in order to achieve sustainable development through identifying the environmental problems facing cleaner production in each industry separately, and acquiring skills to solve these environmental problems or mitigate their effects, and work on applying a model in the field of cleaner production for each industry and circulate it to similar activities.
